Kaiwalagal Torres Strait
Waibeni Indigenous Funeral Services (WIFS) is based on Thursday Island. WIFS provides funeral services to all residents of Kaiwalagal Torres Strait. Our services are also available to residents in the NPA (Northern Peninsula area).
WIFS contracts its services to Coroner’s Court of Queensland, and works closely with Queensland Police Service, Queensland Health, Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and transport providers.

WIFS acknowledges that our families and community are spread throughout Australia. In addition, many interstate and international travellers pass through Kaiwalagal Torres Strait.
Whether your loved one passes away in Kaiwalagal Torres Strait and needs to be transferred home to a mainland, or even international destination, or if they pass away elsewhere and wish to return home, WIFS will work with other funeral directors, transport operators and respective authorities to co-ordinate the safe and timely transfer of your loved one for burial.
